Trail Go John
Fun ride to do in under an hour. CCW is the most fun direction and can be ridden without ever putting a foot down for more experienced riders. Has technical climbs and descents.

Super fun downhill, wish it was longer (luckily, Military picks up where it leaves off and drops even more). Plenty of bumps to get a little air off of along the way, keep an eye out for them.

Great trail either way. Blast down or have a good climb. Either way this is a nice trail.

Perfect as a connector trail as mentioned previously. This trail is rated correctly in my opinion as a green trail, some soft sections that it appears the trail builders are slowly fixing. Great job.

Trail Go John
I agree with most of the previous comments. This trail is mostly intermediate with a back section of double back diamond. This section may have been just black diamond at one time, but over time the trail washed out making it rougher than it was intended. Many of the climbs are close to 20% and wash out groves so narrow your pedals will hit. The trail is in real need of attention and possibly some reroutes. Having said that I enjoyed most of that rough section and getting in the loops around the Cave Creek mountain bike trails.

Not mountain bike friendly. Leave the bike at home and go hike this. Lots of wash outs, lots of boulders on the trail.

Trail Go John
Go John has a mix of everything from smooth flowy fast sections to rocky technical sections. There are also a lot of technical climbs that are a fun challenge. The dirt in cave creek regional park is very different from what is in the rest of the trails in the valley. The dirt isn’t as dusty and dry, it is more tacky and moist. I rode this loop counter clockwise, I would recommend going this way because it gives you the best descent at the end and plenty on the way to the top as well. One of my favorite parts about this trail is how little people I see. When I rode this trail I only encountered a few people, this is great because you can enjoy your ride without having to yield to any horses or hikers. The overall scenery of this trial is amazing, you are secluded in the mountains surrounded by a variety of cactus and trees.

Get a bit if everything on here... tech, rock gardens, flow, climbs. There was alot of horses and hikers in the area, so definitely keep your speed in check. Overall, I thought it was a very fun intermediate trail.

Still a fair amount of horse crap. Very interesting blue lava trail, was concerned about cutting tires in some areas.

Highly recommend this loop counter clockwise.
Smooth flowy trail on both ends with some fun tech in the middle. The trail goes through a beautiful burn zone.

Very fun loop to keep upping your best time. Some wash crossings with deep n soft sand, watch out for washing out. If you find the "secret" trail with the shot up vintage car hood you can stretch the loop a little farther. Great area!

From flat rock to Slate it starts fairly flat/downhill then climbs. The climb is full of loose rocks, some hike a bike. Then it smooths out again.

Great trail with moderate effort. Smooth on northern half but your girlfriend may complain about rocky terrain on south eastern part of trail

Trail Go John
I was tricked into going clockwise, tough ride. The trail looks like a loop, but they are separated by two parking lots. West lot for clockwise and east lot for counter clockwise. If you want the fun Boulder hopping downhill go ccw. Ccw looked easier to climb than going CW but requires better downhill skill.

Lots of equestrian activity. Deeply rutted trails. Horse crap everywhere, and horse piss mud patches that can surprise you and get splattered up at you. Encountered a really rude horse rider. Next time I come to the area I'm staying to the east of the flume trail, away from the equestrian rental area and their usual routes.

Think this comment was directly towards a different Gateway Trail (maybe the one in Scottsdale). This trail doesn't have boulder drops or switchbacks.

Trail Go John
This trail is a mix of mellow of and easy double track (the first 3 km on each end), with the middle 3km of section being really technical and rocky riding (climbing and descending). I would recommend starting it going counter clockwise, and when you get to the end of the rocky section and on to the last mellow double track section, I would turn around and ride it as an out and back so that you get your extra dose of technical climbing and descending.
