This route is going to pose a technical challenge to grade 8 riders. At nearly 5 km, it is a bit shorter than the 2015 course in Powell River, but it presents different challenges that will push the riders to their limits! After a steep gravel climb to start, racers enter Frank's trail (RIP Frank who just passed away recently). A new trail sign marks the entry, and a wonder of XC single track awaits riders. Even with a general tendency downward for 2 km, the course will require constant pedalling. With a really long band of single track, getting a holeshot on the entry to Franks is a tactical advantage. Once Franks is done, riders begin climbing single track. The legs are tired and the technical uphill single track will certainly have many riders off their bikes for the power moves. Perhaps the very best will ride the entire section, but I doubt it. At the top of this trail (which is combo of Hustler and Flow in reverse direction) the course gives the racers a passing window. Down a gravel road pitch to the yellow gate on Conifer Dr. and out onto Harper Rd. Climbing on the shoulder, riders slip onto a trail that cuts back onto the Harper Rd climb and face an uphill gravel road finish. if the leaders are together here, its a leg smashing sprint to the archway for the win!
