Leaving the start chute on a gravel road, racers are faced immediately with a test of legs as they steeply climb to Overtime, a trail not visible on Trail Forks. Fast downhill on OT takes a riders to one of the prettiest low angle single track climbs in the area called Escalator, and then dumps them abruptly onto a gravel road loop where a kilometre of prime passing lane exists. Coming back through the start chute, the riders are then pushed up another gravel road hill and into Frank's Trail, a 2 km downward trending pedalfest on perfect XC single track. Having gone downhill for 2 km, riders face tremendously challenging technical single track climb to Confier Rd. The final leg of the race course allows riders to regain their legs as they climb steady on gravel road. The winner of this race will have survived the single track climb, and still has the legs to pedal hard uphill to the archway finish. At approximate 2 km shorter than the 2015 course in Powell River, I bet the times are similar if not even a bit longer on this south-west BC terrain.
