Did this as a climb up to Mine trail. Pretty easy climb for the most part. A couple loose sandy sections to pedal through.

I have no idea what any of these comments are about! This trail is a BLAST! The way it leads into making a choice between going on secret or hitting the rest of the flow on Hawes makes it a trail to keep coming back too

Skip it. Blown out erosion rutted descents. Ride Secret from the blue bypass off Saddle.

It's not nearly as hard as the person above says. It is definitely blue.

Don’t let the edited videos fool you. This trail is far steep and more technical than shown in many broken up sections. As a beginner who is working to challenge myself up to harder trails, this trail had me hiking quite a bit. Much more difficult than the other popular blue trail of Wildhorse.

I parked at Walgreens, pedaled in 3 miles to the Hawes trail head off of Los Sendas Mountain Dr. When I got to N Diamond point just before the trail head, I seen lots of Mt bikers and asked. They said ride around the gates and go up a little ways and you will see a trail off to the right. That is where I entered. It meets up with Hawes. The guys told me the actual trail I was heading for is super steep up hill and not fun. I want to check it out someday but I was annoyed by the 3 mile pedal in on pavement. I probably wont enter their again. I might park at Wallgreens again but I would enter right on the other side of Powers Rd, along side the wash.

I’ll second that ☝????. The abundance of super dry kitty litter makes the initial climb very frustrating. HAB for roughly the first .5mi and even then, traction on the shoes was iffy.

Super fun up with some neat techy climbs. A few sections leave the blue and fade into black but they are short and doable. I’m anxious to ride it again!

I don’t really rate this as a black, especially compared to Mine trail on the DH end. Saguaro is a great trek through this section. There are some wash crossings and one major DH section the runs you through a wash to a climb on the other end, but that is probably the most challenging part of the trail. Any intermediate could easily ride this with maybe a HAB or two, but definitely doable and fun.

Intermediate rating but this is a little more difficult than many in the area with a black diamond rating. A fun ride with a few rock puzzles along the way to keep interesting. Nice climb makes it a good conditioning ride.

Not worth the time if you are climbing. Atm it is too washed out to climb at any skill level, and generally is pretty gnarly. I generally skip this one and use one of the acess paths cutting down to the road.

I suspect this is a terrific challenge and rewarding ride for advanced riders. Unfortunately I am much more of an intermediate. Although the scenery and surrounding topography are exceptional, the ride is not for the meek. Upward Death Spiral, for example required a lot of walking for me. Good riders are able to do it in a few minutes but no way for guys like me. Wish I could. So probably won’t do it again but was happy to experience it. Narrow, hard rock, steep, and drop exposure which would not be fun taking the hard way. Physically demanding.

The trail is public. The owner of the big home on the south side of the formal entrance about 500 yards east from Hawes Road is infamous and probably the person claiming it’s not.

There is a man who lives on the right side of the trail near the entrance of Teton circle who claims the trail access isn’t public. Can someone please clarify.

Possible the entrance you were at might be on or near private land. The Hawes trails are apart of the Tonto National Forest and I have ridden there many times without any issues. I cannot imagine something being part of a National Forest be private as it is on public land.

Below is a link to google maps of where I always enter. I have not entered through any other entrances.

Trail Saddle
This trail should be broken into two parts - North and South. North half should always be ridden south to north and is perhaps a black Diamond. North of the ridge line turn off you’ll run into a drop off, several optional rock rolls and a rock garden. There are steep switchbacks with unexpected rocks and ruts. Great section.

The south half its best from the south, and is known as Disneyland. You can also start from the north for a fast and short downhill before a climb up rolling foothills.

Like the description says, go counterclockwise. 3/4 of the way through, there is a steep right hand turn. Many people walk it. Watch for the tree on your left!

Just rode the trail on 7/22/17 and the trail in several areas has been washed out due monsoon rains. So its a little rough. Also I personally would put the climb at the beginning a double black diamond.

Heading South from upper ridge was a blast. You can take a left at secret and circle back for another run at it.
