Note the lower section of JEM near the river and sheep bridge road is now one way downhill only for bikes. There’s a new uphill portion named Carne Asada to use instead.

The last climb from Jem DH is the most redeeming part of this trail. I found the first 4 miles to be pretty monotonous.

Fun out and back trail with great views. Good workout on some of the climbs with some sections of loose rock. I rode it a few days after a good rain which helped with traction on some of the more loose sections. I think intermediate is the correct rating for this trail.

For the most part, this trail is green. However, the final mile on the northern end mostly runs right along a cliff. The sheer drop down to the Virgin River and also a side canyon is literally only a few feet from the trail in spots with little bits of up/down and light technical sections thrown in. So if you're a new rider and/or spooked by heights, I'd recommend walking these sections. Additionally, it's easier to see the sites and take photos as this is the most scenic section of the entire trail.

The upper part is some of the most fun MTB I've ever fun. The bottom section between the JEM intersection and Cryptobionic has good stuff going either direction. My take: ride up JEM or Sheep Creek Road to where they intersect with DR, then ride JEM for a quick second, and back on to DR all the way to the top of the Mesa, then back down DR to JEM. Classic riding.

Rating feedback: In the uphill direction specified by start/stop markers, the first 3.6 miles are absolutely green. The hardest features are short steep uphill sections that can be easily coasted up with a little speed and zero technical sections. The last mile is definitely harder, more technical blue trail. It may be worth considering splitting this trail into 2 sections so it's more accurately represented.

As for the trail itself, the downhill is almost too fun! Fast flow rollers with lots of optional rock drops of all shapes and sizes, sometimes right off the trail, sometimes tucked off into a short well marked alternate route.

This is one of the best descents in the Hurricane Cliffs area. It's fast and flowy and you can catch some air on the lower parts. Dead Ringer can be ridden as a climb, but it's a much better descent! Do watch out for riders coming the other way, though. One of my favorite trails in Hurricane twowheeledwanderer.com/posts/best-mountain-bike-trails-in-hurricane-utah

This is a nice pedaly XC ride with amazing views of Zion and the Virgin River. It's part of the larger 24-mile Hurricane Rim IMBA Epic that I wrote about here twowheeledwanderer.com/posts/hurricane-rim-loop. Definitely not the best riding in Hurricane, but good if you don't want the crowds on Gooseberry or you've ridden everything else in the area.

I’m no expert but the climb will definitely test your fitness. Very technical in some areas, huge rocks and pedal strikes happened quite often for me. If JEM was more dry, it would have been a perfect ride. Fun but tough.

Read the other comments about difficulty or lack thereof. Only thing I want to note is there is a section along a cliff with sheer drops. If you have a problem with heights, drive down the dirt road and catch the trail after it leaves the Virgin River.

In Dec. Jan. Feb. these trails are often too wet before noon to ride due to the frost that forms overnight. The mud here holds really good size rocks that can damage your bike. Best to avoid.

We rode the Hurricane Rim loop from our campsite off of Sheep Bridge Road. (all 24.5 miles). Hurricane Rim follows the edge of the mesa most of the time. It ia a mix of technical and hard pack with punchy, technical climbs (mostly loose rock that is hard to gripe and steep grades) that will test your fitness. Really fun trail, either as an out and back or part of the bigger loop. I would rate the technical as intermediate at the most. I rode everything and I am definitely not an expert rider.

Great trail to ride downhill and then conect to JEM, super flowy and easy to carry speed and I would rate one of the most fun out there. A great option/alternative from all these MESA ride’s that you ended up getting an overdose of short and no flow bump rocks.
I rode this as sunset ride after a great morning section at Show Me Your Money into Grafton. Thanks to my bro Mark for the shuttling.

I think dead ringer is a rad trail to ride down. Yes it is an uphill option to get back to the upper jem parking lot but there are two other uphill options. At the gravel road at the bottom of the JEM DH section you can cross the highway and access Gould trail which is an easier but longer uphill climb. Or you can access the jeep road called jem access or jem loop. I hope deadringer never becomes uphill only because it is really fun to rip down it

When I used to live in the Midwest I thought this trail was awesome. After living out west for a while I came back and found this trail rather flat pedally and boring. If you are an xc guy you will love it. If you are a gravity type rider I'd look for something else

I don't know how this trail gets such high ratings. If riding through flat sagebrush is you're thing, you'll love it. If you're competent on a bike and looking for a memorable ride, avoid JEM trail. However, it would be a fun trail to ride with my young children.

This trail is most definitely NOT a downhill prefered trail. With the top of JEM being downhill only, this trail is the only single track route back to the Highway 59 parking area. In the future, it may actually be designated as uphill only. Please watch for climbers on your way down, they have the right of way.

Riding this trail downhill from the parking lot is the best trail in the area for speed and jumps and such. Riding the jeep trail back up to the parking area is the most recommended way of getting back as there are a bit of blind corners on this trail. Hopefully one day this will be designated as a downhill only trail.
