This years much anticipated Big Sky BME stop will showcase some of the best trails in the Northwest. Over the course of the 2-day event, racers can expect 3 to 4 stages per day and upwards of 9,500 feet of descending, most of which will be lift accessed. True to any BME event, there will be some pedal transitions equalling roughly 3,000 feet of climbing over both days.
The terrain at Big Sky is steep and technical. Each stage will feature a unique mix of loamy dirt, roots, rocks, high speed singletrack, tight switchbacks and enough natural terrain that will leave you grinning ear to ear.
Big Sky Resort has more than 50 miles of hiking and biking trails, with more than 40 miles dedicated to mountain biking. Enjoy chairlift-serviced downhill mountain biking for all levels and abilities, with connector trails that allow bikers to ride all the way down to Big Sky town center. Each year, Big Sky Resort grows its network on downhill flow trails. This year, crews completed the much anticipated Gambler trail, and intermediate trail off of Swift Current chairlift. Big Sky Resort is always ranked in the top five bike parks in the Northwest by MTBParks.com. The multitude of hiking trails connect to U.S. Forest Service lands, which allow for full day treks into Montana’s beautiful backcountry.
Big Sky Resort’s mountain bike trails are a mix of freeride and technical bike trails. Freeride bike trails contain constructed enhanced/modified terrain, obstacles, and features such as jumps, berms, banks, bridges and drops created from dirt, wood or other materials. Freeride trails may also incorporate Technical trail features and designs. Freeride trails may be built by hand and/or machine and are designed to be ridden downhill. Technical bike trails are designed to embrace the natural shape and terrain of the mountain. Technical trails may contain roots, gravel, rocks, logs, water crossings, jumps, drops and other natural characteristics and obstacles found in the natural environment, and may also include man-made obstacles and bridges. Technical trails may be built by hand and/or machine, and look largely natural. Technical trails may be designated for one-way or bi-directional travel.
