The most common way to get to middle Black Mountain trail while parking at the bottom of Lower Black. Middle Black was redesigned and opened August 2021. It is now possible to ride up Middle Black without a hike & bike.
This route brings you up gravel roads to the bottom of middle Black Mountain where you can ride up to the junction with Turkey Pen and then bomb down the best parts of Black Mountain trail.
**If you've had enough by the time you finish Lower Black Mountain, you'll be at your vehicle and can call it quits.
***But...if you need just a little more, keep going on the loop and add in Sycamore.
Detailed Description
Black Mtn w New Middle out and back & Sycamore is a 17 mile popular intermediate route located near Brevard North Carolina. This mountain bike only route can be used one direction and has a hard overall physical rating. This route includes 2 trails. This route climbs 2,791 ft with a max elevation of 4,115 ft then descends -2,798 ft.

Trail Black Mountain Trail (Middle)
The 2021 reroute is quite good! It is more approachable than the washed out old trail, but still takes some precision to ride fast. The feel is similar to lower Black with great flow and lots of little kickers, but steeper and tighter and more exposed. Keep off the brakes and it rips!

This is also known as Turkey Creek Road and I believe is FSR 5099 (not 5049)
