Please use caution when at the Ponky trailhead near Route 128/24 bridge - Lots of fast cars
Gravel/Cross loop at Blue Hills covering the Ponkapoag (aka Ponky) side of the park.
Starting from the Houghtons Pond parking lot, ride towards Route 128/24 highway and cross the highway. Ride on packed dirt fireroad around Ponkapoag Pond, Blue Hills golf course and a dam. Once you pass the AMC cabins (rustic no power, no heat cabins for rent), you start riding towards the Route 24 Horse bridge.
Crossing the Route 24 Horse bridge gets you into the old Nike site. Take the gas line path to the end and right towards the old Nike building area. Now completely cleared out, there was alot happening here back during WWII. Looping back into the gas line, you take singletrack towards the horse farm. (If you encounter horses here, PLEASE stop and get off your bike to allow them to pass). Next you ride a loop passing an elementary school (and great alternative parking spot). Loop asks you to finish the Nike side by crossing Route 24.
Rest of the loop consists of doubletrack thats loose over hard with one technical descent. The last mile of the Ponky loop features semi-technical riding that features rocks to weave around but not an issue with a gravel bike and good line choice. Finally end the loop back on the main fireroad, taking you back towards the Route 128/24 bridge.
Link this loop with the other two Blue Hills Gravel Bike loops to build out a great day on the bike
