Red Route from Brenaissance on Devonvalley Road.

Open farm roads with great views onto the mountain ranges surrounding Stellenbosch with flowing single track, passing through vineyards and Renosterveld. Some wide wooden bridges and several sustained steep climbs, remember the trails traverse the Bottelary hills.

Detail description:
From Brenaissance head right onto Devonvalley Road; after 750m turn right into the entrance for Dwars-in-die-Weg & Fransmanskraal. Pass through the manned security gate.
Initially follow pink arrows past the Styling Shed to access the Yellow loop, then follow yellow arrows.

There is a water point near the Watergang homestead

After cycling along side the top dam, you reach a junction where you branch left for long Yellow & Red (Straight on and right into Fish Eagle siingle track will take you back to where you started).

After a short kicker climb, the return leg of Red joins from the right.
Continue upwards and to the left to the top where you turn right to face the Stellenbosch mountains with the Jonkershoek Twin peaks as main feature. Enjoy the view; this is some of the best you get sitting on a bicycle Look out for arrows pointing right after passing the land owner's braai under Oak trees.

The route meanders through the vineyards on Wolwedans farm (there is a water point near the Wolwedans homestead).
Soon after passing the water point, you hit the bottom of Wolwedans Vastrap.
Carry on straight where Long Yellow branches right near the top of the Wolwedans Vastrap climb and enter the Lizard single track on the left at the top.

At the bottom of Lizard single track you need to turn very sharp right to do the full Red route (to optionally bypass Wolfkloof carry on straight with the single track here). Ystervark single track drops into Wolfkloof with some sweeping switchbacks and climbs back out the other side.

After Ystervark single track you continue to climb on a jeep track back up to the game fence. (Skaapsteker single track on Green joins in from the right on the jeep track where the gradient levels off).

More climbing along what feels like never ending switchbacks brings you to the masts on Ribbokkop. As you round the masts, a short section of jeep track towards the right leads you to more switchback downhill single track on the left. You head down until you reach a neck on the watershed between the Brackenfell and Stellenbosch sides.

This neck is where red and green splits. The Red route turns right and heads downhill (green continues straight uphill). This section is 2 way traffic with Green coming up. Follow red arrows.
Look out for a junction to your right. Do not descend straight down Kaapzicht killer. Instead turn right and left to descend down to Goedehoop farm on Fishers Road. There is a water point on the Fischers Road at Goedehoop.

Follow Fishers Road northwards for about 200m and turn right. Keep following Red arrow markers meandering through the vineyards and eventually join the Orange route shortly after the junction towards the Blue loop.
Follow Orange & Red markers for about 3.6km. Look out for a junction to your right after passing houses where you leave the Orange route. Follow red arrows.

About 1km further you reach the next split point, where you turn right (straight on is a short cut to the Yellow route and your starting point, bypassing the Welgelegen climb).
This is the start of the Welgelegen climb. At the top of the Welgelegen climb, cross the farm road to join a single track running parallel to the road. Don't go too fast when starting to go downhill after rejoining the road; Red goes sharp right at the first junction. A single track section to the left exits onto farm road for a few meters before entering single track again. Look out for riders coming down on the Yellow route joining from your right. The single track ends in a fast section going straight down with a left and right turn to bring you back onto vineyard roads.

Look out for a junction to the left onto a dam wall shortly after exiting the single track at the bottom (continuing straight will take you out for another full loop of red).
After crossing the dam wall it is downhill again leading into Fish Eagle single track along the dams.

At the end of the single track you cross a brick paved road and then ride along the bottom dam wall, crossing a wooden bridge over the dam overflow, bringing you back to where you started. Follow the pink arrows to return to Brenaissance.

Some new damage (ruts) on the newly rehabilitated trails. Maybe some touch up maintenance required when we know the rainy season has ended.
