Trail Lower Ridge
Lol yeah no cliff drops (from the picture) here unless you find your own non-trail route off the side of the ridge xD For some reason this was split from the upper ridge section on the map even though there is no
break in the trails. This section involves easy steep slope good for picking up speed for the last blue black level climb to deadass, skinny pete, and maybe even 47 degrees (for you crazy people lol).

Update: a decent amount of work has been done to this trail over the last year. A lot of the berms have been built up and the top is a lot more fun even if the traction killing sideways rut bumps are a bit annoying. This is probably one of the funniest, flowiest mid-level black downhill trails here now and a great place to train your downhill skills on since wrecking here is alot more forgiving than many other similar level trails here. On the downside, the mid trail hill drop wood is getting a little chewed up and the old classic ending drop has been blocked off probably due to erosion.

CW and CCW beginner/intermediate perspective. I much prefer when this is running CW. The climb is rocky but don't remember anything too difficult for beginners to get over. You can always take the road instead of the trail to the top if you want maximum fun with minimal effort. The downhill is great and flowy when running CW and I rate it a 4.5/5. CCW downhill in my opinion is not worth even going up for. It traverses and undulates (aka not really downhill) until the last .5 miles where it starts heading downhill. The traversal part wasn't fun and I rate it a 1.5/5.

What a cool trail! Riding down is a lot more fun than riding up. Would not recommend without a fairly big travel bike and some confidence on granite and sandstone.

UPDATE: some work has been done on this trail! The berms have improved a lot and its alot more fun. Might be the best training trial now but only if you look ahead and insanely fun if you're more seasoned. The top is still somewhat steeper and bumpier than a training trail should be but the steepness levels off just enough to practice your switchback fast shortly after then you run into some genius roller coaster dips! The only sad news is that the turn off at the end for the g-out drop/roller is now blocked off for you advanced riders and only 286c (I think thats what its called) is the way out...can't say I'm surprised. The g-out drop pretty sketchy now because of erosion and its potentially dangerous for riders coming up the main trail. Either way I'm gonna be coming back here to train my not so great downhill alot! Its arguably easier and way more fun to train on this than College trail is. But yes it will probably still be a sloppy mess in the winter compared to its somewhat scary neighbor skinny pete.

This trail feels right between Nelson Loop and Antelope in terms of tech/rockiness. It's fairly flowly in parts, but also fairly techy/rocky in parts. This makes sense because it's right in the middle of both trails! It's a somewhat exposed trail so bring sunscreen and water. Although rare, keep an eye out for snakes as well. I saw one a few weeks ago on this trail. Check out my video on Youtube if you want to see video of the uphill and downhill! youtu.be/aVmrf4V97oc?t=642

Trail Antelope
Tight turns with extended rock gardens make this a tricky climb and descent. Be prepared to stop; some of the turns are blind. This section has a unique feel to it that's much techier than the rest of the trail system. Check out my youtube video on the trail if you want to see video of the trail! youtu.be/aVmrf4V97oc

Trail The Grind
Finally made it all the way to the top of this trail after several failed attempts due to snow and running out of sunlight in the past. The beginning is easy and gradually gets steeper after the first big Switchback starts getting around blue difficulty (still did it in 4th gear though so not that tough) until you get to the five roads Crossing. At this point you are really going to pay for getting to any higher up trails along this road because it starts morphing into blue black difficulty very quickly with black level endurance requirements and it's still a looooonnng way to go on something this steep. It's a gut Buster just to get to the next turn off to get to classic Bon Scott area and if you want to go beyond that, get ready for more steep loose rocky chaos until you get to the big turn where it finally levels out for a while before the final short but steep ascent. I wish I could say the trails at the top are worth it but by the time I got to the top it was already after sunset and I didn't know those Trails well enough to try them in the dusk so shamefully I just rode back down it until I got to college. Coming down it was ok fun and only slightly sketchy in the dusk due to the semi steep looseness. THIS (yeah and Firemans Road) is the brutal climb everyone talks about when they talk about left hand ohv...Great climbing Trail for weeding out Noobs though Wink

Half the trail is Green, the other is not. Pretty short either way. You can use it to get to the bottom of ODB from it easily if you're crazy enough to try to climb that to get to other trails. Best as decent after ODBs sketchy washed out downhill madness.

First downhill Trail I ever rode here (or anywhere else) and it's a hell of a way to start. The top is probably the hardest part because it's fairly Steep and it berms are kind of wasted away at least the last time I tried it so not very well maintained. A lot of fun moderately difficult downhill features from then on so it's still worth it. Be careful of the last drop since it's a bit steep and it drops right onto Lefthand Road so there may be riders coming up to dodge ;p It can be a bit snowy and muddy compared did a trail right next to it (Skinny pete) in the winter so keep that in mind.

Great Trail but make sure you have good brakes cuz they will be on fire by the time you get to the bottom of this unless you're a Pro. That being said, it isn't super steep or overly technical so this will be much better if you're not use to the types of downhill trails around here... but ot is fairly long compared to others and the last semi steep section is a bit loose with bumpy roots but an easy ride out so be committed and you'll have a blast. Possibly the best overall Trail here for normal Trail/flow Riders with novice to moderate downhill skills.

Trail Fireman Hill
Just did this for the first time today.. It's hours later and I'm still out of breath ;p I probably only rode about half of it while actually on my bike... maybe if I was in spring shape I could ride 70% or 80% of it. It may not be super long but it is mercilessly steep, fairly loose, and even a bit technical in a few spots... But a big payoff at the top with multiple great downhill runs available.

Followed some downhill professional guys down this and scared me shitless... But really really not that hard compared to some of the trails here and multiple cheater bypasses but if you're used to Hall Ranch, get ready for some steep insanity especially at the end...Which is a great place to learn to roll steeps since you can immediately go uphill when the last roll is finished by the way. Added bonus: this trail dries faster than just about any other here if you are riding in the winter months.

I agree - that is a pretty lame trail description. It's a nice, steep climb that is off the paved roads. If you are looking for a quick, hard climb near North Boulder and you don't want to get in your car, its a good resource. Maybe someday we will get a connector to Heil Ranch.

Awesome ride. My 9 year old did it on his specialized hard tail, front suspension, 27.5 inch tires. He walked the bike on the uphill parts and we actually went into the other trail that is blue connected to this one, but not the whole thing.

He absolutely loved it! We took it slow when he wanted and it turned out great.

This trail was totally destroyed by rains last year. There is a huge section of the trail that is about a 1 foot rut for a few hundred yards. A go-around was forming but it's fate will be the same I'm sure.

Description is wildly inaccurate. Don't know if it's been graded since original description, but Joder Ranch trail is currently neither steep nor rocky. It's a tame gravel road that serves as a good mtb connector to Left Hand and Heil or a fun gravel segment on a drop bar bike.

Makes for a great technical climb, with steep but grippy sandstone ledges.

As a descent, the main line is blue-black. But there's many optional lines to increase the challenge.

One of the most fun trails in Boulder County. Definitely not a double diamond run. There are no mandatory jumps or drops and it's not quite as steep as the other LHOHV trails. Prone to ruts after heavy rains. But the single worst part of this trail is that it's too short!

This should be a green trail, not blue like the rest of the Heil complex.

This is a great warmup and cool down loop to hit combined with the rest of Heil.

Rode this for the first (and probably last) time today. BORING.

Probably a good loop to bring a beginner to though.

This is rated incorrectly. It should really be a green.

I ride this trail a few times a week for a lunch break. This is not a black. I'd give it a blue-green rating. A few little spots, but pretty easy.
