Brda è la parte del territorio collinare del Collio che si trova in territorio sloveno. L’area geografica collinare è posta tra il fiume Isonzo ed il suo affluente di destra, lo Iudrio. Per le sue peculiarità viene definita la Toscana di Slovenia . Le colline di Brda sono cosparse ovunque di villaggi, tutti circondati dal verde, da vigneti, frutteti e oliveti, disposti per lo più su terrazze, in mezzo ai quali serpeggiano strade e sentieri tra cui il Sentiero della pace e l’Alpe Adria Trail. Il nome di alcuni paesi di Brda deriva da specie di quercia: Dobrovo da “dob”, la farnia, Cerovo e Cerje da “cer”, il cerro, Gradno da “graden”, il rovere.
La tipica architettura locale con le casse rustiche in legno spesso intarsiate, le ben 27 chiese e chiesette, i castelli ed i borghi fortificati rendono questo territorio molto interessante, in grado di soddisfare anche il visitatore più esigente.
I panorami sono magnifici in ogni direzione e l’enogastronomia è di prim’ordine.
Questo itinerario e gli altri due qui proposti sfruttano alcuni tratti degli otto itinerari escursionistici ben tabellati (scarica mappa) che prendono il nome da antiche varietà di ciliegie di Brda; la rete dei Sentieri dei fiori di ciliegio ha uno sviluppo di oltre 80 km.

Brda - Chiese e castelli (da www.isontinoinbici.it) is a 16 mile less popular intermediate route located near Goriška Brda. This mountain bike primary route can be used one direction and has a moderate overall physical rating. This route climbs 1,811 ft with a max elevation of 606 ft then descends -1,810 ft.
