This is a route I planned for a few beginners as an intro to Burnaby Mountain. Park on Gagliardi and head up the road towards Sidewinder. When you pop out of Sidewinder, veer back onto Mel's and go towards the ring road at SFU. Head across the ring road and descend Gearjammer. By heading back to the road, you avoid the more difficult climbing on Mel's and get to descend the top of GJ which is nice and flowy. At the bottom of GJ, instead of continuing down to the harder portion of Gearjammer take Mel's over to TCT and drop down onto Dead Moped and take the trail North to South for a cross country challenge with lots of bridges and optional features. Take DM to North Road Trail then cut over to the right towards Function Junction trail and descent Lower Snake...another fun little challenging trail for beginners. At the bottom, head to the right on the Pipeline trail and back to the car.

Note: Trail ratings on Burnaby Mountain are generally harder than you might find on the North Shore (ie. Blue trail could easily be a Green).

The hardest but most fun part of the Gearjammer route. Contains a few optional drops and plenty of wood features and berms. Super fun and probaly one of the best trails on Burnaby Mountain!

Flowy upper section to Gearjammer with a few optional drops and some rollers/jumps. All flow and no tech.

Somebody has extra boardwalks and didn’t know what to do with except covering the trail .. and doesn’t seem there is an end to it!

Instead of doing trail maintenance Burnaby have put a big old boardwalk across 1/3 of this trail. Sigh.

I ride this trail all the time! Although it is very easy, it has a few optional lines like skinnies. (only like 1 foot off the ground) there is one roll/ a frame that you can drop. There is a rock on the side of the trail that you can jump. This trail is a great bigginer trail. I would say if you skip all of the optional features, it would be a green. Great trail for an easy warm up.

What he said. Lots of potential, but a super suck ride back up. You can ride it now, just not a lot to it.

Could be a decent trail but it’s not well maintained and a lot of the ladders etc are broken or in poor condition. It also dumps you out on the TC trail when you have a killer climb back if you’re going that way.

Lots of good corners that don't make it too easy for you while still giving you good support.

Yes this trail is pretty damn steep. I have climbed it twice now, it just keeps on going and going. Have not done Cardiac Hill at the top yet though.

Someone needs to cut out that dangerous handrail they put in. If not I will get to it next week.

I don't understand, what's the issue with the handrail? it's there for the hikers and to block the braid on the RH side. The Muddbunnies held their beginner ride on LS on Monday, there's lots of pictures of the women riding the wooden ramp and no one seemed to have any issues with the handrail. Please don't make any unauthorized changes to the trail. Thanks.

Offers a nice climb up to SFU if you're heading east from Hastings. You'll get a pretty good cardio workout and strengthen your muscles. Trail offers 3 rest stops on the way up and you can use them as benchmarks to push yourself to do the whole climb in one go. Centennial Way marks the halfway point going up, but I find the climb much easier after that point. Once you're at the top, it's a fairly easy ride towards Cardio Hill, Mel's trail, or Powerline trail.

Going down is pretty fun as you can pick up some serious velocity, but be prepared to melt your brakes.
