Meet and depart from Caroline's Boatshed. Travel up Brunswick road turning right at Rangitatau East Rd. This takes you up to and past Bushy Park (predator fenced bird sanctuary with accommodation) soon after which the road becomes gravel. Enjoy the vistas and ups and downs of the back blocks before turning right onto Kauarapaoa Rd which leads downwards and towards the Whanganui river. The road becomes Papaiti Rd as it reaches the Whanganui river which is also close to Kemps Pole. The road closely follows the river downstream ultimately becoming sealed again. Soon after passing Upokongaro (on the opposite bank) one reaches the cycle bridge which is part of the Mountain to Sea route. One can stay on the sealed road or join the Mountain to Sea path from here. Finish the ride at Caroline's Boatshed and enjoy some refreshments whilst having a debrief about the ride and sharing experiences.
