A STIFF climb up Butter Hill will have your legs churning with a 400 foot elevation gain and some dramatic views. Some hand-over-hand areas on this may not be for everyone.
The Butter Hill views are amazing, but the truly great views are ahead on Storm King Mountain.

After soaking in the views of the Hudson and taking a break, the white-blazed bypass trail is an easier route down. It briefly joins the blue-blazed Howell Trail, but stick with the white blazes back to the car. One sharp climb awaits, so you are not home free.
