Note the lower section of JEM near the river and sheep bridge road is now one way downhill only for bikes. There’s a new uphill portion named Carne Asada to use instead.

For the most part, this trail is green. However, the final mile on the northern end mostly runs right along a cliff. The sheer drop down to the Virgin River and also a side canyon is literally only a few feet from the trail in spots with little bits of up/down and light technical sections thrown in. So if you're a new rider and/or spooked by heights, I'd recommend walking these sections. Additionally, it's easier to see the sites and take photos as this is the most scenic section of the entire trail.

Very easy trail. Good one for the start of the season. Very pretty along the river gorge, but other than that it’s very basic. Still worth doing, but definitely not the best trail in the vicinity.

My first mtb ride. Had to walk the cliffs and some of the rocks on the trail but otherwise was a great trail for my first attempt!

Took our 5 yrs old there because we didn t know the trail will be so exposed/drop off that far. We walked our bike the drop off ended. He was mentally done by that time.

Hey there. I'm reading a lot of mixed messages about this trail on a few sites- is this an out and back trail, or shuttle for one direction only?

It's an out and back trail. The upper section of JEM is one way only, but you can go up Dead Ringer to get to the top. I do this loop all the time.

Meh. It’s a nice long flowy downhill but was not in love with it. You also need to check your speed through the cliff section.

Read the other comments about difficulty or lack thereof. Only thing I want to note is there is a section along a cliff with sheer drops. If you have a problem with heights, drive down the dirt road and catch the trail after it leaves the Virgin River.

Great scenery, short techy sections to keep things interesting, and even some fun rock drops to jump off if you're inclined.

The short stretch at the bottom along the high cliffs above the river is sort of interesting and unique but an overall bland and not very fun trail. Worth checking off the list but not one I need to ride again.

This trail used to be a high speed buff rally through the sage. As of Fall 2016 it was a rutted mess. I'd recommend Dead Ringer instead for a descent.

When I used to live in the Midwest I thought this trail was awesome. After living out west for a while I came back and found this trail rather flat pedally and boring. If you are an xc guy you will love it. If you are a gravity type rider I'd look for something else

I don't know how this trail gets such high ratings. If riding through flat sagebrush is you're thing, you'll love it. If you're competent on a bike and looking for a memorable ride, avoid JEM trail. However, it would be a fun trail to ride with my young children.
