Completed in early 2023, the Maple Swamp-Discovery Hill Connector is one of the newest segments of the Cape Cod Pathways, a developing regional trail system that will one day connect Cape Cod from Falmouth to Provincetown via off-road trail. The Maple Swamp-Discovery Hill Connector measures approximately 1.25 miles, and was planned and created in collaboration between the New England Mountain Bike Association and a local trail advocate named John Newstead. Now riders will be able to seamlessly connect between the popular Maple Swamp Conservation Area trails and the lesser-known and more rugged Discovery Hill/Coke Plant trails via off-road, forested trail. Long distance backpackers and bikepackers can now also travel from Telegraph Hill in Sandwich to Otis Atwood in Barnstable without leaving a forested trail. Currently, most trails in the Discovery Hill/Coke Plant network are challenging, black diamond trails, but long-term plans include extending the Maple Swamp-Discovery Hill Connector through the network, providing easier access for novice and intermediate mountain bikers.
