Beginner Class Race Stages:
4. Double Black Diamond Trail.
5. Two Dollar Trail

Beginner Class Racers will receive a shuttle to the top of Chuckanut Mountain.

Race Stage 1 – Double Black Diamond Trail
From the top of the mountain, riders will push up the trail that is directly across from the viewpoint. From there, riders will go down (riders RIGHT) the Top of Double Black Diamond. Just before the exit of the trail, racers will go RIGHT and go down the original exit of the trail and down to Fragrance Lake Road. At Fragrance Lake Road, riders will turn right up hill.

Transition 1:
Go uphill on Fragrance Lake Road for a couple hundred yards and take a left towards Fragrance Lake. Go through the split rail fencing and take an immediate right towards Fragrance Lake. Before reaching the lake, take a left and go across the wooden boardwalk. Follow that trail above the lake and take the next left up a short climb. The start will be at the intersection where this climb flattens out and connects to Two Dollar.

Race Stage 2 – Two Dollar Trail
The stage will start at the intersection to the Fragrance Lake on the more established section of the Two Dollar Trail. Racers will finish after the last RIGHT hand switchback just before reaching the Cleator Road.

Transition 2:
Riders will ride down Cleator Road .5 mile. Just after the 90 degree right corner, go LEFT on the Interurban trail. If you reach pavement, you have missed the trail. Follow the Interurban trail for 1.3 miles and take the connector on your right and cross Chuckanut drive and back to the Larrabee Campground. Please pay attention when crossing the road here

NOTE: Cleator Road is heavily used by vehicles, so please ride slow and use caution as you descend down it. On the interurban trail, there are many roads and driveways that intersect it (also many other trail users), so please use caution as you ride along it.

Trail Two Dollar
If you are climbing up the Cleator Road, and intend to link this up to get up to Double Black, ride the Fragrance Lake loop, and avoid the full Two Dollar- it will climb up and along a cliff with many hiking sections, and waste your time. It was cool to see- kind of an adventure- but I wouldn’t do it again. If have time constraints, better to pedal up from the lost lake parking lot and just be done with it.

I tried to ride it but there’s a lot of downed trees and the initial approach is far more Advanced than intermediate

Really Double Down is the 'double black' trail between the two, if anything. Double Down is a legit solid black anywhere in the world, with some expert features. Double Black trail was easier- both are fun with some tech, roots, drops, good dirt.

Were you climbing? It is a climb trail and will take about 25 min to reach the lake. As far as down, I see quite a few CX bikes on it.

Trail Two Dollar
The section by Fragrance Lake is silly- you can just take the lake loop to bypass and the rest of 2 Dollar is wide buffed cross country trail. Rolling with sporadic climbs peppered in. The highlights include views of the lake, a big waterfall you pass, and coastal views popping out. Not the funnest trail, but a decent fitness ride for people who wanna avoid technical trail and just enjoy the day. Watch for hikers please. If you do check out the end segment by fragrance lake, make sure you trust your brakes and don’t get in over you head. I encounter plenty of big trees down across the trail that would suck to hit.

Trail Two Dollar
After the initial terrain, which for an intermediate rider was near-unrideable, I found the route to be very enjoyable.

Straight forward way to get up mt. Is gated, so no cars which is nice.

If you are just looking for a way back North to Cleater rd, otherwise I wouldn't bother. Feels more like a hiking trail than biking.
