Trail Cold Creek
This is not a climbing trail just to reiterate.

Also, the $99 ticket for fail to display discovery pass is legit those communists are not afraid to lay it on your vehicle. Have fun!

Unrelated question, but are there legal shooting areas around cold creek? I constantly hear gun fire and see casings on the climb up and it got me on high alert. Thanks.

Top third is technical with rock gardens. Not worth the extra 4 miles or so of climbing. Ride the bottom 2/3 twice if you want extra miles

Definitely an upper/lower trail. The upper part descends from Larch Mtn to the top of Sixth Sense and is steep in spots with a huge shale garden that will kick you around for a bit until you get back into the trees, twisting down the hillside that features a gnarly optional root garden and drop. I'd rate the upper part a blue-black or a black. The lower part isn't quite as steep and features more flow and a lot of optional small jumps and drops. Wicked fun that includes some more root and rock gardens. The climb up to the top of Larch Mtn is a grinder, especially the last 500 ft above Thrillium, so keep that in mind.

Best ride I’ve had so far in the NW. Good downhill speed at times, rolling flats at others. Perfect scenery. Slightly wet at points this weekend but definitely worth the ride.

We only rode the first ~ 1/2, finishing up on Sixth Sense. I would say this rates more Blue/Black than Blue. Some of the riders in our group had trouble with the steep and loose nature of the trail, and they generally ride blue trails with no issues. I personally thought the scree field was just annoying as it tried to throw up rocks to crack my frame. Smile Next time I'll probably ride just the lower half since the climb to the very top is brutal and not worth it IMO.

I am curious to know if anyone else has gotten a flat tire on the gravel road leading to the cold creek trail head? I have gotten a flat tire on the last two trips I made, and to make it more weird, brand new tires as well !

I had a flat last week on the L-1000 road before 4 corners on medium worn truck tires. Looked like a sharp rock. My guess is that as the road gets more blown out in the summer, sharp rocks that are lodged into the ground are no longer covered by as much loose gravel, making the road a little tougher on tires.

When half my group showed up with kneepads and full-face helmets — or BOTH — I wondered what I had gotten myself into. I'd rate this trail as "Intermediate With Real Consequences". Maybe start to rotate that blue square counter-clockwise about 15-degrees and darken the hue a little ;-)

The couple trees that were down last week have been cleared, thank you to whoever did that! Now there is a new tree down just up the trail from where the last one was. I cleared everything around it, and you are able to ride around, but the tree will need to be moved or cut.
