Trail Squid Line
Very fun singletrack trail. I took my 12 y/o son and this was our first trip to Sumas Mountain. Not much in the way of features but a few wood bridges and opportunities to get a bit of air if you carry enough speed here and there.

I made the mistake of driving to the start of the trail and riding the same access road back up. The road was recently graded so our bikes were covered in a thick layer of dust before we even began. Best to part at the lower lot (b4 the road turns to dust) and ride up first. I do wish there was a nice climbing trail instead.

Fun trail for the first 3/4 of it. The last 1/4 is alot of uphill, to the point that it no longer was enjoyable. We cut over to Emma Peel for the last section and it was also alot of climbing. Overall still a fun trail and its well maintained, however, it was quite wet today.

Loved this trail. Super easy but lengthy with some speedy sections paired with punchy little climbs and then more speed. I've been eyeing this trail for about 2 to 3 years.

Rode this today after Knob Gobbler, I forgot how much climbing you do on this one, it just went on and on. I would say this is more XC than downhill. I've gotta find a more fun way to get down from Knob Gobbler back to the parking lot next time. I thought it was a lot of work that wasn't really worth the effort.

The muddy bits in the top half aren't drying out quickly with the colder weather now and are getting deeper in general with the popularity of the trail and the increasing acceptance of wet conditions riding. As others have noticed, and the votes reflect, these factors have led to some chunkier sections over the years, and this is probably no longer a "pure" green. Always good fun though.

Amazing trail. Should be bump to a blue, met two people on the trail first thing they said to me was: this is not a green.

Great trail. Rode it with my 4 year old son and 6 year old godson yesterday. May have been a little long for the 4 year old, but all came through with smiles at the end. NOTE; the trail deserves a green rating, but there are a few sections that can still be a bit challenging. I suggest you lead the trail and check out all sections as I found out the hard way as I watched my son pinball down a small rock chute. Well done Dash (4) and Troy (6) for killing it. So much fun, very proud of you boys.

I'm surprised that nobody has reviewed this trail yet. Especially given its popularity. The Squid Line is a fantastic flowy XC/AM trail. Anybody can ride this trail, I have been taking my son on it since he was 6 years old. However an expert rider can have a blast by hitting this trail at full throttle. At full speed there are some hidden jumps that pop out and immense flow! You will not be disappointed.

Hi.

Know of similar trails closer to Vancouver? I'm a 57 year old mountain bike noob with a strong aversion to rock gardens and gnarly roots. Bobsled is alright but real short. Bridle Path, starting from its east end, way to rocky and rooty for my tastes.

Dec 23, 2021
The FSR is closed near the bottom with large machinery fixing a washout, but just below the closure you can detour to the right up another road, then take a left and ride a portion of Emma Peel back to the FSR and then it's clear sailing to the top. Dusting of snow at the bottom slowly transitions to several inches (5-6") of wet sticky snow near the top.
