10 mile beginner loop. Starts from the Shale Pit off Coopers Gap Rd. Start climbing Coopers Gap Rd 1.2 miles and then make the left onto Dutch Alvin. This winds and climbs for 2 miles until it intersects with Chestnut Springs trail - Staying straight or right follow this around and down to Coopers Gap Rd. There might be a short 25 yd section depending on your skill you may choose to walk. Left on Coopers Gap Rd past the Peep parking lot and the intersection of Kettle and Coopers Gap Rd. 0.25mi past the intersection with Kettle Rd turn left onto Chicken Peter - yes up the short steep climb. Follow this back around for a mile (past the intersection with Kettle Rd hidden by the pine trees) back to Coopers Gap Rd and Bear Gap intersection. Go back the way you came on Coopers Gap Rd past the Peep lot and make a right onto Chestnut Springs reversing the route you came earlier
