Trail Long Branch
Wish I’d read the review before I rode it today. Series of viscous mud bogs and rhododendron thickets that felt like a run through Mirkwood. Very eroded—doubles as a small creek.

On the plus side loads of potential and people that enjoy untamed “old school” pre flow trail stuff it may be enjoyable. On the negative side multiple fallen trees, a landslide making you hike off trail, unrideable sections in the uphill direction, and plenty of opportunities to launch over the handlebars on untamed rocks and roots. Could become a real gem with new maintenance.

Best done starting from Cove Creek road, the "top" is a small clearing about 0.25 miles from the actual intersection. Turning to the right, it starts as a techy, rooty trail with a few drops and some creek crossings. Upon turning left at the Farlow intersection, it gets fast and rocky, essentially a streambed going along the side of a hill. Super fun and rowdy. Turning to the left from Cove Creek Road, there's some tech to start but it quickly devolves into steep, fast, and loose, particularly the section immediately following the intersection with Lanning Ridge Road. Very different and very fun both ways down.

Trail Long Branch
Enjoyable descent, necessary evil climb out from Butter when Cat Gap is out of season. Definitely a blue by Pisgah standards.

Trail was kind of fun but more technical than a blue usually is because of some rather rutted drops. It is all in the shade though

Trail Butter Gap
Fun trail but not worth the effort to get to the trail and to climb out. Many better options in Pisgah.

Trail Butter Gap
Butter Gap is actually open to bikes year round, incorrect to call it a seasonal trail. Cat Gap is seasonal.

Trail Butter Gap
I do not know why someone downvoted you, I submitted an edit saying the same thing. The section from Long Branch to Cat Gap is seasonal, however the rest is not:

www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/nfsnc/recreation/recarea/?recid=48318&actid=50

"The portion of the trail between Cat Gap Loop (#120) and Long Branch Trail (#116) is open to mountain bikes seasonally, from October 15 through April 15 only. This is to minimize safety concerns on a heavily used trail."

Hopefully the edit will be approved shortly.

Trail Butter Gap
Fun trail with many roots. They aren't huge but pretty rough on the downhill (on a low travel hardtail) at high speeds

Quite a few big rocks and drops/steps on this one. Also a few creek crossings

Many mudpits in first half. Trees down just after the steep portion near the bottom. In general, this trail will have to be closed sooner than later. Significant erosion.
