One of the longest Rail Trails, spanning almost 200 miles between the towns of Norfolk and Valentine, follows the old Cowboy Rail Line through native prairie and grassy sand dunes.
Some of the trail is covered in pea gravel and a few short sections are paved, but expect some stretches of washboards and sand. Flat tire protection recommended.

Cowboy Trail is a 187 mile less popular easy route located near Norfolk Nebraska. This mountain bike primary route can be used both directions and has a easy overall physical rating. This route climbs 1,226 ft with a max elevation of 2,724 ft then descends -158 ft.
