Legend has it, that long before the water of Carvins Cove flooded the farmland once known as Happy Valley, a strange and shadowy gilled creature roamed the bogs and waterways…

Now, for reasons unknown, sightings of an unusual reptilian figure have been widely reported. This fall, a brigade of endurance mountain bike racers will be sent in to investigate, exploring 40+ miles of dark backwoods while simultaneously competing for the ultimate prize: the XXC-VA state championship

Virginia’s Blue Ridge’s Creature From Carvins Cove invites mountain bike racers from across the state and beyond to witness the wonders of Carvins Cove’s gnarliest singletrack! Shorter option? Yes we have a 15-mile XC route.

Our title sponsor, Virginia's Blue Ridge, has compiled a resource for bike friendly lodging: https://www.visitroanokeva.com/biking/bike-friendly-lodging.

There is also free camping at GO Fest grounds, River's Edge North on the river in the shadow of Carilion Clinic.

Trail Arrowhead
Very fun. NOT fun as a finisher trail when you are exhausted.

Great Trail and glad to be so close to it now! Its a good ride in both directions, however starting from the more Northern point will have you climbing most of the way but set you up for the jumpline at the very end. Reverse that and you climb the jump line and decend most of the techy stuff and you can decend Arrowhead that way. Overall a fun trail to ride in both directions as a single trail loop, two varied experiences on one trail.

Nice beginner trail with 2 skinnies and a roller to practice on. Also makes a good "cool down" trail after descending Tuck A Way

Trail The Gauntlet
Trailforks calls this blue, signpost calls it double black, I’d call it a solid single black. Trailforks description is wrong - it’s describing OG jump line. This trail is fast and chunky, and easily in the top 5 most fun trails I’ve ever ridden.

Don't ride this after eating only a few Krispy Kreme donuts.

If you are not a technical rider DO NOT RIDE. If you have slick shoes do not ride unless you are confident in your ability with rock gardens.

I remember a very fun jump section on the last descent of this trail. Are there any more or any plans for expansion?

One of my favorite trails at Carvin's. Fast with some tight turns and chunky drops and roots to keep you on your toes.

Incredible trail, thanks to the trail builders for the amazing dirt and stone work. Ride in the direction shown to enjoy the jumps at the end. Keep an eye out for an optional rock drop in the beginning

Trail The Trough
Not the best one for downhill due to the climber. Can be a big challenge for few rider don't like or not good on climbing trail. Fire road is easier on top .

Trail The Trough
When climbed, this trail starts out as meandering singletrack, and turns into an unrelenting straight shot up the mountain. A considerable challenge for confident climbers, and a long hike-a-bike for everyone else. However, the trails at the top of the climb make the effort entirely worth it. Several worn-down lips and landings still exist along the edges of the trail, but with the amount of loose rock, and the uphill traffic, this may not be the optimal descending trail.

Description is wrong it’s a double black enduro downhill trail. This is not a machine built jump trail The Trail OG is the machine built jump trail. That being said this trail is awesome it’s super fast and long one of my favorite trails

It's not a "double black enduro downhill trail". The IMBA Trail Difficulty Rating System puts it at a blue square

Always thought it was a single black. It might have been a blue in the 90s but erosion has made the trail a lot more gnarly with more exposed roots.
