Feeling like taking on a burlier loop? Advanced and Expert riders will love this loop as it challenges your technical skill and your fitness. Start at the Scorpion Trailhead and take Scorpion south. Hit Pyramid at the split and rally down some steeper terrain to more technical traversing. Cross the road at the bottom and head towards Old Post. Climb Old Post, a technical and sustained climb. You'll be heading to Carroll Canyon Trail, but be careful - there are two intersections with Carroll Canyon and you want the SECOND one Take the second right on Carroll Canyon to where it joins up with Ridge. Climb to the high point and then point your bike downhill for a wide open DH that leads to a spicy waterfall. At the road, hang a left and take it about .25 miles down to Secret Slick Rock Trail for another fun DH. Play on the Slick Rock for a minute before looking for the big cairn that marks the continuation of Ridge (You'll be heading to the left towards the exposed southern side of the formation). Continue on off-camber rock rolls to some rowdy DH to the Road. turn right and head to Chavez Ranch Rd. Turn Left and take Old Post Trail up one more time towards Skywalker. Return to the Trailhead via Skywalker.

Trail Skywalker
Excellent intermediate trail with something for almost any rider. An experienced rider could push themselves on this, and a rider getting getting used to technical blue rocky trails won't be too intimidated by most of it. As everyone else says, there are expansive views from the ridge that are awe inspiring.

I would agree with the intermediate assessment, with a few beginner, and few expert sections. Going up will challenge your skill, and patience, and down has a few places where you can pick up real speed, but the good news is the trail is wide enough to where even the expert sections has options to get through that make it seem reasonable.

Riding N to S, one of the most fun continuous downhill trails in Sedona. A good mix, fast and flowy, sometimes technical riding, with a couple steep spots in the final section after the slickrock traverse.

Fun in both directions, and a great connector and scenery trail. Blue is appropriate.

One of my favorite trails in Sedona (and definitely the most underrated). Has one of the longer sustained downhills around. True black diamond with some chunk and sketchy sections, but flows pretty well overall.

Great trail. Highly recommend seeking this one out. Getting to it (Scorpion) isn’t as bad as some claim
For a fun loop: Herkenham, Old Post, Ridge, Sketch, Ridge again. Take the road up to Pyramid/Scorpion TH. Up Scorpion, down Pyramid then back up Scorpion to Herkanham TH. Great ride

Ride this trail north to south (green to red). Starts out as a a flowy xc ride and ends on a wide open romp down to Chavez ranch road. There are lots of fun line choices through all the chunky rock on the downhill portion of this trail. It’s most likely the fastest climbing rout out of the hole, but you might see some fast traffic coming at you.

The slickrock is at the junction with Ridge. Don't ride to east end expecting to find a bigger slickrock area. It's just a boring connector trail to a parking lot.

Did Herkenham to Old Post, down OP to road. Then back up and OP to Skywalker for a loop. Lots of S-N uphill techie enough to make it 50/50, but the constant cranking up drained the tank quickly. Coming from near sea level, and 30 mph winds today also didn't help much.

After working on tech skills a lot, this one becomes more fun. Rocky but janky flow f you are very aggressive. It is a fun downhill for advanced people. Be ready for switchbacks and punchy uphills. Pyramid is an awesome option halfway but lower scorpion has a fun fast flow that is easier than Pyramid. But if you are advanced take Pyramid...

Either way this trail is fun. More fun going North to South though. Awesome rock gardens, a couple mandatory drops, slickrock, insane views, and loose stuff so be careful. A true black diamond with a little bit of everything. Heading the other way, from the high point it is a fun and flowy, but shorter and less technical downhill.

Either direction has its merits on this trail. Climbing up to West Sedona is fun because of a few rock gardens that can be a challenge and followed by a great flow down on the Northside. Going south is great because its a fun downhill with good rock gardens to fly over and some fast sections. Good views the whole way.

Trail Pyramid
Great trail with one really gnarly downhill. Off camber with exposure and loose rocks and drops at points. I would say that section is harder than most Black Diamonds in Sedona. Best way to access this trail is to climb up Scorpion from the smooth bottom, because the top of Scorpion is a terrible volcanic rock jumble that is unridable for most of it.

I only love the bottom half of this trail. If you ride it as an out and back starting at the bottom, it is a nice uphill until Pyramid then turn around and bomb down the flowy slickrock sections with less chunk than the top half of the trail. The top half is an insufferable grind thru sharp volcanic rocks that have not been removed from the trail and it keeps the flow from ever forming.

Did not like this one. Despite the topography you never felt you’re able to bomb downhill. Endless chunk and lots of tight, short rocky uphills. There is no flow or rhythm possible.

Either way you go on this trail it’s straight up for a half mile or so on each end. The vista where it meet Lime Kiln is your typical breathtaking Sedona panorama however you can get the same view many other places for less work. I tried this trail because I’ve tried most of them in town and thought I should give it a go. If you mr deciding on this trail for the same reason, pick a trail you liked and re-ride it is my advice.

This should absolutely be an advanced trail. The lowest, flowier section is probably borderline blue/black, and the upper section is 100% advanced. It is comparable, or maybe slightly more difficult, than nearby black rated Ridge or Skywalker.

Great trail that's well worth seeking out if you're visiting from out of town. The way in on Scorpion is quality stuff too and rides a good bit different than other trails in the Sedona area.

If you find the west side uninspiring this might be the trail that makes it worth the trip across town!

This is not rated properly. This is more of an advanced trail. Not because of ledges or jumps but because it is rock chunky the first halfway, well for the first half of it. Which makes this trail totally crappy. I was super disappointed. There is no flow to it. I can’t say for the second half because I got off the trail and road pyramid which was way better.

This is the quintessential only trail that I would say would be like doing an enduro. . Techy but Fast and Flowy. First part of it that you have to take to get to this trail is a total piece of shit. Just chunky slow rocky but then you get to this part and it’s good. I would ride it again even with the first part being crappy.

Carrol Canyon to Ridge heading South to North/up, is the route that we took. Mostly all uphill but had some descending. You get to pass through a creek towards the end that usually always has water. Perfect for a stop and quick freshening up! Some rocky tech sections and tight switchbacks out of nowhere!
