This is great for people looking to see and experience the Fleecer Mountain Region, which includes a large chunk of the Continental Divide Trail (CDT). Be warned that this is a tough ride as there is little rest on this route, and you will encounter rock gardens, sand, mud, and possibly downed trees across the trail. Fortunately there are several good options for cutting the route short if it proves too long or difficult. This region is predominantly focused on motorized travel, so most of the trails are ATV trails. Motorized users generally do a good job of keeping the trails clear.
On this route you have roughly:
- 17 miles of doubletrack
- 4 miles of dirt road
- 3 miles of singletrack

A few of scenic highlights of the route:
- Burnt Mountain Viewpoint off the side of Burnt Mountain (at the top of the singletrack)
- Looking across at Mt Fleecer from Starlight Mountain when descending Fleecer Ridge from Burnt Mountain.
- 360 degree views of Mt Fleecer and the surrounding mountains from the apex of Fleecer Ridge Rd. If you were feeling extra ambitious, it is possible to summit Mt fleecer (involves off trail hiking).

The easiest way to ride this loop is counter clockwise, and this mostly hinges on Fleecer Ridge Rd (ATV primary, not the access road). Fleecer Ridge Rd has the longest, steepest and most technical section of this route, so it's easier to ride down it. It's steeper and rockier at the top, and gets easier as your descend. It may be doubletrack, but it's a pretty fun and long downhill. The Fleecer Ridge (to Burnt Mtn) Trail is also quite rocky and also much easier to ride in this direction.

If you choose to ride up Fleecer Ridge Rd it's quite possible you will be walking some of the steeper sections near the top. Once you gain the actual ridge, you will have some easy riding for a while until Fleecer Ridge (to Burnt Mtn) Trail where there are some steep and rocky sections. Eventually you get to have a good chunk of your descent on some nice flowy singletrack, which is maybe a biggest benefit of riding the loop Clockwise. Your other major descent will be divide creek ridge which is very fast and easy, sandy doubletrack.

CDT - Divide Creek Ridge
May 24, 2024 @ 8:43pm
May 24, 2024
There is one tree (handsaw-able) near the very top end of the trail, otherwise it's all clear. Today it was a little damp in places from recent snow, but give it a day or two and it will be ideal, and then dry before you know it. reporter
CDT - Burnt Mountain to Divide Creek
May 24, 2024 @ 8:39pm
May 24, 2024
It snowed very recently, so there is a few inches on the upper part of the trail, but it is melting fast and will probably be ideal within the next week. Someone has been through with a chainsaw this year already, but there are some new trees down. I removed some smaller ones with a handsaw, but there are 4 places where you will have to dismount, and 2 of these will need a chainsaw. reporter

Trail has been cleared this year, but there are several trees down in the upper half (not sure about the lower half as I went down Starlight Trail). reporter
Fleecer Ridge Rd
