Exit the motorway at the tollbooth of Genova Nervi, then continue towards Genova and Corso Europa.

Forte Ratti Richelieu
Ratti Richelieu fort

The route starts from Monteratti fort, which can be reached from Corso Europa (junction with Via Isonzo), reaching the Accident and Emergency entrance of the San Martino hospital and turning right at the roundabout onto Salita Superiore di Santa Tecla, very steep and tough.
Keep climbing towards Camandoli (on the road with the same name) until you reach the dirt road.
When you reach the quarry, ride along the fence and follow the obvious track that runs across the slope.
At the junction, take the track to the right that climbs with technical passages towards the massive Monteratti fort. There, you can follow the trail that enters the fort and takes you to the panoramic terrace.
Exit the fort and ride along the walls, keeping them on your right hand side. Follow the red dots on the trees that guide you swiftly to the start of the Pi-Ratti trail.
In the initial section the track has a few steep passages with tight switchbacks, then it becomes smoother, faster and offers some flow. Stay on this exciting downhill, with its drops and boardwalks, until you reach Sant'Eusebio where you can spot two water points.
Keep left on Via ai Piani di Sant'Eusebio and you will soon be near Cappelletta dei Cacciatori. Take the climb on your left, which has some technical passages, and enter into the woods where the trail offers some flow again, especially from the stone bridge onwards.
Ride the road you have already done, pass again in front of the quarry and after a few hundred meters follow the track to your left, uphill; this takes you to Richelieu fort, from where you can enjoy a stunning view.
Ride along the walls until you reach the bastion on the top of the southern ridge of the mountain, which is the start of your descent: very challenging both from a technical and physical point of view, with rough surface and a few technical passages on rocky drops, steep in places, that make it feasible only for experienced riders.
As soon as you reach a plateau, not far from a water tank, follow the track on the left that runs along the wall. Be careful not to miss the track on the left as it is often hidden by vegetation.
The stone-paved track soon turns into a steep and narrow series of steps where it is important to be aware of walkers (you better get off and push your bike).
Once you reach Via Nicolò Copernico, follow the road and join Via Posalunga. At the traffic lights turn right on Via Timavo: you are back at the start point.
