The Four Seasons of Horsetooth Mountain Bike Challenge is a grass-roots un-event with no entry fees and no real start times and is ridden on the two solstices and two equinoxes in Horsetooth Mountain Park and Lory State Park.

By being required to complete at least three seasonal stages, we hope it encourages you to come ride if your schedule doesn’t permit on any given stage. The course is designed to offer what we think are the best sections of trail in our backyard. The course should take about 2-3 hours.

Had fun in the autumn? Bring a friend for the winter stage Don’t own a fancy team kit or 20lb race bike? Neither do we! Come ride for the fun and challenge of completing all four events!

Check out the rules at www.4soh.org.

Trail West Valley
This whole area up and down the valley might be the most beautiful riding I’ve ever done in 28 years of Mtb.

New work on trail is much appreciated. The additions have linked together the trail with more flow without sanitizing it!! Good job trail crew

This is a downhill specific trail. If you are going to climb the trail be aware that downhill traffic will be traveling at fast speed. For your safety climb towers road.

No, it’s not. It’s not marked by any signs or on any Larimer County maps as being directional or bike-only and there is regular bike and foot traffic coming up it. None of the trails in Horsetooth or Lory are directional or bike-only. It’d be awesome if there was, but there isn’t, so please don’t shrek some poor hiker on your way down.

Trail Sawmill
Sawmill does seem underrated. Upper section is solidly blue, the lower, steep, techy section is definitely dipping its toes into black rated terrain.

Use Towers trail as a climb trail, going up to Carey Springs and descending that to Sawmill and Sawmill the rest of the way down makes for a nice long downhill with some fun sections

Trail Sawmill
Much better as a downhill than climbing, but with a lack of good climbing trails in the area, this still beats climbing the road

Definitely used more as a descent these days; links nicely with Carey Springs into Loggers then Sawmill.

Trail Wathen
This was a fun trail that was only somewhat technical. I rode it blind, and did not need to scout or walk any part. I would say this is more a blue black leaning more towards a black diamond trail. It was fun any way you look at it!

Not even close to the most technical descent but awesome. Check out Howard or Ginny if your looking for technical.
