Day 1 of Great Explorations - Sunshine Coast Challenge! We start in the beautiful trails of Halfmoon Bay to get you acquainted to XC single track right away. There is not a lot elevation gain, but these trails have enough little dips, roots, and bridges to push your limits. We cross over HWY 102 and ride some recently new trails named after the recording mediums before getting to your first aid station at Trout Lake. After you've fueled up, the ride goes onto the highway for a short section before climbing to the 'matrix' trails around the beaver pond and Crowston lakes. New this year is the VFR trail which was a featured trail in the BC Bike Race. The trail has a good climb to the top then a hooting fast downhill with some great views. Next set of trails is DD, 3D and 4D trails which will make all that climbing worthwhile. At the bottom of 4D begins easy fireroad/paved road riding to Kinnikinik Park for some easy singletrack and lunch at Kinnikinik School. After lunch, we plan to easily spin our way to Porpoise Bay Provincial Park for some well earned refreshments and dinner!
