 I followed this route, and unless I missed something huge, I only had 950m elevation gain out and back.

 Yes, that 1768m total elevation gain seems highly suspect to me. Maybe due to
elevation data using satellite signal, as opposed to a more accurate barometric altimeter, which not all GPS units have?
Another glaring example of this is Snakes and Ladders-
the Trailforks profile indicates 2 substantial ASCENTS on the downhill from Ranger, including one of 24 vertical meters which simply does not exist.

Conditions are excellent for 10 south of Driftwood. Punched a little further past that. More traffic would help. Studs not necessary.
