House of Paine or IHOP is a poorly marked seldom ridden loop that is about 90% single track. Still the adventurous with average trail finding and GPS skills will find this route very rewarding. House of Paine is located between the Independence valley to the west and the Goshute Valley to the east in the Paine Basin. IHOP is best described as desert mountain riding with pinyon pine, juniper and sage brush in the foothills of the beautiful Pequop Mountains. You can park/camp anywhere you find a spot as BLM rules apply. From the Milk Springs trace road (hard to find ) ride south to join Prickly Pear and turn right to ride in a counter clockwise direction. Take a left on to Gutterball connector to access the top of Gutterball. Ride down Gutterball to the fence line road and take a right for about 1/2 mile to take another right on Lupine. Lupine is a single track that accesses the upper loop of IHOP and is also a starva segment that you can do on the way back down. At the top of Lupine take a right onto north three troughs connector and then take a left onto a primitive road at the end to start Secret Canyon one of the first trails in the Paine Basin. Secret Canyon is a forested single track uphill to the base of the mountain. From there the trail turns into Cinder Cone Vista with an excellent view of the Goshute Valley. Cinder Cone is an extinct lava cone with some excellent pipe breccia This trail ends at Three Troughs where you might see some cows but they are friendly. From there you take Cathedral Gorge Overlook with a nice view of Six Mile Canyon. After the viewpoint the trail then goes steeply down to Six Mile Canyon where you turn left down the canyon to stay on IHOP or right to go up the canyon to do Solar Coaster. After going down Six Mile Canyon road about a mile take a left to go north back toward the interstate on Six Mile/ Three Troughs single track connector. Once you arrive at Three Troughs take a right to South Three Troughs connector which will take you to the top of Lupine the same trail you were on earlier. This is the trail that is a strava segment that terminates at the fence line road where you will take a left Go past Gutterball trail on the fence line road and turn left onto Prickly Pear. This trail heads uphill west where you will join Milk Springs trace road back to your car. As I mentioned earlier the trails are not well marked. There is a combination of green and pink tape, some signage, rock cairns, sticks and wooden portals to help with this trail forks app map to locate the route
