The Intermediate Route is much the same as the Mixed Bag route but without the technical trails without crossing Dover St. It also includes a variety of some of the best trails in Hale in the most popular direction.
The route starts out fast and flowy on the Office and Storrow Pond trails. A great warmup and introduction to Hale.
After crossing the Storrow Pond Dam, you follow a long flowy route that briefly dips you into Noanet Woodlands. Ride past the old mill area and follow the blue blazes on the Peabody Loop. Breifly leaving the Peabody Loop but continuing south, you pick up the Orange Blazes of the Larabee Trail. Follow these blazes along a fun mix of double and single track.
At the East West Fire Road, you work your way back to Hale. You immediately are awarded a short punchy climb with lots of rock but this is the only tough part of this trail. Once you get through that section, the trail flows very nicely all the way back to the Powissett Pond dam. Cross the pond at the dam and take your first left across the small beach and along the single track that parallels the pond a bit.
Eventually you hit Carby Street again. Take a right on Carby St. and at the chained gate area, look for a small connector trail on your left. Take this trail down to Noanett Pond and follow the single track clockwise all the way around the pond. This trail is very rooty with some challenging bridges. Just stay close to the pond most of the time.
When you hit the dam, return to the parking area by riding the carriage trail back to Cat Rock parking.
