7(ish) km Virtual Trail Run/Walk: Bus-t A Move
Come and explore the west side trails and see what trail running is all about This beautiful course will be a joy for new or experienced trail runners. It features lots of flowing single track, some inclines rewarded with spectacular views across the desert landscape, and some exciting rocky descents.
To get to the starting line: Drive to the end of the bitumen on Smith St. Continue along the dirt road and cross a single railway. Continue to a clearing and you will see a large rock and a tree – this is where you can park. Take a short walk toward the powerlines, cross the railway and you will see 2 large gum trees with a concrete slab beneath them. This is your start/finish (see photos).
The course: You will begin on the concrete slabs under the gum trees. Start out on the sandy dirt track and follow the yellow and black arrows and orange tape until you find the Locomotive mountain bike trail on your right. Follow the mountain bike trail markers and orange tape for a couple of kilometres, and enjoy the views from the ridge before you join with the Bus mountain bike trail on your left (there is a mountain bike trail sign here and the turn is marked with a yellow and black arrow). Follow the Bus trail up the hill and back down over the next few kms until you reach the bus for a photo op, before you again meet the sandy dirt roads. Look for the yellow and black arrows and orange tape to guide you back to the finish at the same concrete slab under the trees where you started. All trail junctions should be marked with an arrow, but if you are unsure look out for the orange tape up ahead – there is plenty out there so you shouldn’t get lost!
The route is marked as Bus-t A Move on Trailforks and also segmented the same on Strava.
Note too that these are mountain bike trails, so jump off the track for the riders!
Gear: This is a completely self-supported run. It is recommended all runners participating in this virtual event carry a minimum kit, including:
Capacity to carry 1L water
Fully charged mobile phone (apps such as Guru Maps or Trailforks will have these trails mapped jut incase you need to make sure you are on track)
