How late were you up on Saturday night? Missoula's Hair of the Dog Enduro is the second stop of the 2015 Montana Enduro Series. This Blue Mountain route covers 12 miles with 3,590' feet of timed descent and 2,240' of climbing.
Stage 1 - Deadman's Ridge - Buckle your helmet and hold on tight for the longest, loosest, and gnarliest segment on the Hair of the Dog Enduro Course. Deadman's is 2,000 feet of sweet, sweet, chundery rock, roots, and bermed corners. If you make it to the bottom with all of your teeth you'll be grinning from ear to ear.
Stage 2 - Deadman's Gulch - The lower section of Deadman's is a little more intimate. It's chock full of tight switchbacks and rock drops, and being nestled down by the creek is a little bit less dusty than up on the ridge.
Stage 3 - Hayes Saddle - The icing on the cake. The cherry on top. The Hayes descent. They all mean the same thing. Hayes is fast, flowy, and fun. The race probably won't be won on this segment, but if you take the time to air off of every hip and rock along they way, you just might lose it here. We wouldn't blame you.
The Hair of the Dog Enduro is permitted by the Lolo National Forest.
Clear of snow but still plenty of ruts and loose rock.
Beware of a trail split at mile 7.3. Stay to the left at the top of the knob and don't drop down to the right. I have no idea where that trail goes but it's steep and a bitch to climb back up (sigh!).
