This is a great beginner loop, despite being essentially out and back it is completely different in the opposite direction on Dutch Alvin, first you climb then relish the flowing downhill.

This loop begins at the Shale Pit off Coopers Gap rd, warms you up with a road climb before swinging off onto Dutch Alvin. Alternatively you could climb the road and enter on the upper entrance to Dutch Alvin. In both cases Dutch Alvin will connect you to Chestnut springs which dumps you out back on Coopers Gap Rd. There is a small typical for this area rock garden just before Coopers Gap Rd, that is about 20 yds long.
Follow Coopers Gap rd to past Kettle Rd where Chicken Peter and Shitaka meet, turn left up Chicken Peter which sends you back towards the Shale Pit and car

This is about a 90+ minute loop for beginners
