In 2010 the northern section of the route for the Butte 100 Racecourse looked very different to what it does today before organizers decided to make the route "more compact".

The southern section of the route has remained very similar. However, since 2010 there have been trail re-routes/additions on Skeeboggan, Bear Gulch, and 8-miles of Hell. Placer/Eagles Nest Trail did not exist back then. The route also went up the steeper Grading Camp Trail, where as now it goes up the Chimney Trail (Upper Grading Camp).

TLDR - There are only 5 trees remaining on this trail, just south of the summit. Trail is snow and mud free. A lot of tree clearing work happened on the Homestake-Pipestone portion of the CDT today. @DinsmoreBailey was up there with a chainsaw on the North side of the summit, while myself and Alex cut out the smaller trees by hand. We continued down the South side and came to discover that someone had been cutting up from the other end to the Junction with Beaver Ponds Trail. There are only 5 trees left between this junction and the summit. One of these will definitely need a chainsaw, while the other 4 *could* be taken out with a handsaw if you are feeling ambitious. reporter
