pian del lago

The route starts from Levanto and continues in the direction of Bonassola, with an initial uphill section. At Fontana dei ciclisti [cyclists' fountain], the first descent begins.
Keeping on the same descent, reach a small dirt clearing on the right with three tracks: take the one to the very right, that goes uphill and after a challenging ascend takes you to Pian del Lago, into the woods of pine trees and ferns. Turn right at the junction and descend for about 14 km. Stop somewhere to put on your knee-pads and protection: this is where the fast descent begins! After this section, you will reach a small open space with a crossroads. If you go straight you are directly back to Levanto or Bonassola; if you turn right instead, you enter the woods on a single-track that ascends with steep 10-30 m long ramps (mind the loose unstable material on the right). Follow the track straight, leave the woods and reach a viewpoint overlooking the valley. The single-track goes slightly downhill, then a series of short ups and downs keep you at elevation until you reach another junction. Keep right there, start climbing along a wide trail and you will soon be on a fast, wide dirt road. Keep going straight: it will take you to Foce di Dosso where, after another crossroads, you will spot an ancient little church. Riding along the climb in front of it, reach Bardelone and pass the farmhouse on the left. Climb for a little while and then pick up the uphill trail to the left. From there the descent begins: after an uphill middle section, a steep, technical single-track takes you back to the asphalt. Continue to the Cassana central square, take the dirt road to Bardellone until you reach the electricity pylon. Pick up the descent there: following the directions to Levanto, it will take you back to the start point.
