Summer riding safety: Even with coastal fog breeze and shade under trees, heat from sunlight can sap energy quickly. Bring LOTS of water to hydrate (minimum 65 ounces (2 liters)) and healthy high-carb foods to fuel. Watch out for rattlesnakes!

Great combination of single track trails (Big Rock, 680, Idylberry, Goat, Queenstone, Ponti Ridge) and fire roads (Chicken Shack, Big Rock Ridge, Loma Alta, Gunsight, Old Railroad Grade, Smith Ridge, Luiz Ranch, Terra Linda to Lucas Valley, Queenstone). Cardiac ascents on fire roads Chicken Shack, Loma Alta, Gun Sight, and Queenstone and single track Queenstone. "Stay alert" descents on single tracks Big Rock, black diamond Goat, and rollercoaster Ponti Ridge; brake-check before launching Surface condition of trails and fire roads well-worn hardpack with loose rocks/gravel in some sections. Smooth asphalt roads (Lucas Valley cross-over) and at end of route (Terra Linda-Ignacio bike path). Watch out for RATTLESNAKES in summer!

Two opportunities to shorten route:
1.At end of Loma Alta, take 680 and bypass Smith Ridge-Old Rail Road Grade-Gunsight loop.
2.After 1/3 of mile on Queenstone (STEEP - 0 to 25%+ grade !!!), take Idylberry and bypass Queenstone-Big Rock Ridge-Goat loop.
