A set of true Alpine trails set around Tonic Peak and Mount Sproatt that makes demands on your fitness, skill and preparedness. This route demonstrates a great way to navigate to and from the Alpine loop starting at Rainbow Lake carpark.

From Rainbow carpark head Left along ‘Alta Lake Road’ taking the first Right up ‘Whip me Snip me’ go Left at the first junction to join ‘Hot Dog Alley’. As you approach ‘Scotia Creek Access FSR’ take the immediate Right to join and climb ‘Scotia Nova’, follow this as it crosses the FSR to the top.

Once on ‘Stone Bridge Drive’ go Right and then at the first road junction, go Left. You will climb on the road until reaching a turn around area, from here continue straight up the steep gravel track onto ‘Sirloin’. Continue straight over at the 4 way junction at the end of Sirloin where you will climb the steep bridges of ‘Darwins’ continue to follow ‘Darwins’ to the ‘Rainbow-Sproatt Flank’

Once on the ‘‘Rainbow-Sproatt Flank’ continue until you cross a large wooden bridge, on the right you will see the information board.

*****Stop to take notice of the information posted on the board - including weather, trail reports and wildlife info*****

Go Right under the arch and climb ‘Into the Mystic’ you will keep left at the first junction you meet, and then keep right at the second. You will climb for a long time, passing only the entrance to ‘Less’ a descent and optional cut out for those finding the climb too long.

Once you are in the Alpine and meet a ‘T’ junction go right to follow ‘On the Rocks’ you will have several shorter climbs in this section and will eventually pass two large wooden picnic tables, at the second picnic table you will begin to descend.

Follow the descent as it traverses the hill and through a large open rock field, eventually as it flattens off you will turn left to join ‘Rush Hour’. Descent the small rock rolls and tight turns until you reach ‘Happy Hour’ Go left here.

Follow and climb ‘Happy Hour’ until you reach the summit. Looking back from the summit down towards the way you came, you will see a trail heading right, take this trail ‘Last Call’ and descend back down to ‘Happy Hour’ from here turn left to follow the trail back up towards ‘Lord of the Squirrels’

Descend ‘Lord of the Squirrels’ back to the ‘Rainbow - Sproatt Flank’. Once on the Flank go right to descend towards ‘Chipmunk Rebellion’ take a left and follow down into ‘Industrial Waste’ Keep left and descend onto ‘Danimal Middle’ Crossing the FSR and making the short climb over and back down towards ‘Stonebridge Drive’.

From ‘Stonebridge Drive’ pedal up the road to ‘Danimal North’ for a classic westside descent, you will then take a Left and follow ‘Whip me Snip me’ down to the Right at the first junction to return to ‘Rainbow carpark’.
