This loop starts and finishes at the main car park on South Karori Road. It climbs at a steady gradient via Koru and Sally Alley to roughly half way up the peak, before traversing across on Three Brothers.

From the end of Three Brothers you get to descend back to the car park on the fast, smooth and flowy JFK, Smokin, a short flat section of Ridgeline Extension, Big Tom's Wheelie and then finally Lazy Fern.

These are all intermediate grade tracks that are mostly under the trees and offer protection and shelter from the sun, wind or rain. This loops is a good option in the unlikely event that the weather's really bad, you don't feel like going all the way to the summit, or if you are short on time.

There are a variety of alternative tracks that can be used as part of the descent all of which are a harder grade than the tracks recommended, including Ridgeline Extension, SWIGG and Starfish instead of Lazy Fern or Magic Carpet and Live Wires depending on skill level and tastes.
