Dont forget your bear spray! Water is plentiful for a filter to work
Looping some classic trails in Bozeman! Headup the painted hills connector from town and catch sourdough road to Bozeman Creek Trailhead. From here ride a local favorite XC route of SHootout park. IT is usually suggested in the clockwise direction.
Here is one of two short sections that you will ride twice. Ride back up towards Mystic Lake Cabin and cross the creek to go down the Wall of Death. Watch yourself for loose rock and a mud pit or two!
Once back at the bridge, head up the canyon and hang right at the Moser-Mystic intersection. While climbing up there will be a trail on your left "Diaper Line". It may be a bit steeper than the double track, but is much more engaging! Dont forget to hoot and holler up here. Lots of bears and other wildlife around.
YOu will get spit out onto an old roadcut once at the top and make your way to the main Moser Road Fork in Hyalite. Here you get a nice double track climb until a faint trail on your right. If you hit an ATV trail you've gone too far.
Take the ripping singletrack descent down until you hit an obvious road cut and follow that until you hit the pavement of Hyalite Canyon Rd.
Ride up the road until you get to Langhor on your right. (you'll be south/uphill of the campground). Follow the left forks (more well-traveled) to connect in with the top of History Rock Trail. Keep going uphill to the beautiful lookout into South Cottonwood Canyon.
Hold on and get ready for a steep and narrow descent of Fox Creek. But rest assured its almost all downhill to the SC trailhead from here.
ONce at the trailhead make your way back to town on the pavement or cut it short with a shuttle! Staying on South Cottonwood rd until johnson keeps you away from tight twisty roads and gets you to some lesser traveled dirt roads going W > E.
