You park at Vífilstaðavatn(the lower parking area) and follow the trails from there along vífilstaðahlíð. When you reach the end you will go over the road and make your way to Búrfellsgjá. When you descended from the top of búrfellsgjá you have to navigate through an lava field but you should be able to see the track. Húsfell is not very high up but its loose and step. The way back is almost the same but except follow Vífilstaðahlíð all the way back you take the line road over it and have a fun single track back to the parking lot.
