The mountain biking trail leading up to Yllästunturi Fell is a rewarding experience for visitors to the open fell landscape. The trail connecting the two villages has a wilderness feeling and utter silence that embraces travellers.

The mountain biking trail between Ylläsjärvi ski resort and Äkäslompolo village begins with a long rise to the open fell. The trail is wide and technically easy to cycle. The landscape at Tuomikuru Lapp hat is worth the effort. Enjoy the silence and take a few photos.

A short rise starting at the Lapp hut crossing continues to the highest point on the trail. In many places, the landscape on the fell stretches all the way to the horizon. A long descent leads deep into the forest, where sunlight filtering through the trees enhances the lush beauty of the forest.

At Kesänkijärvi Lake, the trail to Äkäslompolo is signposted to the left (4 km). At this point, you can also turn off to Kesänkijärvi lean-to shelter to enjoy the rugged fell landscape, and then take the longer Kesänkijärven polkaisu Trail to Äkäslompolo (10 km).

The trail can be ridden in both directions. A summer trail is also signposted from the ski resort to Ylläsjärvi.

Ylläsjärvi-Äkäslompolo Mountain Biking is a 7 mile popular easy route located near Muonio. This mountain bike primary route can be used both directions and has a moderate overall physical rating. This route includes 13 trails. This route climbs 835 ft with a max elevation of 1,438 ft then descends -1,049 ft.
