The Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park is a 185 acre park located in Boone, North Carolina. The park is operated by the Watauga County Parks and Recreation Department, in cooperation with the Boone Area Cyclists. The park offers more than 8-miles of exciting single-track trails—that are also accessible by hikers and runners—that offer varying degrees of difficulty. There are also four “skills” areas located along the trails with features designed to test the advanced rider’s skillset.
Part of the Watauga County Parks and Recreation system, the Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park was developed through a partnership with the Boone Area Cyclists and the Watauga County Tourism Development Authority as unique park where riders can learn and develop mountain bike skills. The park features four skills development areas including the signature PBJ Trail -- a trail featuring an assortment of pumps, berms, and jumps. Hikers, trail runners, and families can enjoy the trails too.
The Pump TRACK Trail is another mountain bike feature located at Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park. Connected to the parking-lot, the pump track offers a series of rollers and berms designed to help riders learn, practice and master the basic skills of mountain biking. The ultimate goal is to smoothly ride over the obstacles and “pump” your way around the entire course without pedaling.
Kids in Parks partnered with Watauga County and the Boone Area Cyclists to create educational signs stationed around the track. Each sign contains illustrations and text, as well as a QR code video link, to help teach the skills needed to be more successful on the course.
In addition to the trails and pump track at Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park, there are restrooms, a picnic shelter and a playground.
