Trail #317 winds through ponderosa pine and scrub oak. The trail climbs to a ridge where it offers scenic views of the San Francisco Peaks to the north and Thumb Butte to the south.

The trail is best accessed as a loop with Trail #316 or various other intersections with other trails.
