This trail should be broken into two segments. I rode it clockwise from the bottom. My recommendation is skip the southern climb. Lots of hike-a-bike, overgrown, trees over the trail. The northern is a fun descent and would be a good up and back.

Rode the Upper Adams (177) section today as an out and back. Stout climb with some hike a bike. Trail is in good shape just a couple trees down. Rips on the downhill !

Climb up is about 1/3 hike a bike on the way up. Mostly in the middle and the end. Very little shade but was bearable in early June. Trail has rerouted in the steepest part to include a few switchbacks.
The decent is loose with punchy climbs. There are some fun ridge sections but most of the top is eroding bench cut. Still rideable but little room for error. Second half of the decent the trail opens up a bit.
Great ride but lots of work and a bit of an adventure. Plus side was not much dead fall, 2 trees maybe but being as the forest is burnt this could change at anytime.
Yeeeehaaa ride on riders

I second the previous commenter’s recommendation to consider this two different segments, but not the opinion of the climb up the gulch. Old Adams Gulch Road is hard and a little schwacky but it is obscenely beautiful and at least 90% rideable. The Adams Rib trail is an all-time backcountry single track: skinny, scenic, engaging but not at all sketchy.
