This is a steep trail that follows the direct fall line in several places. This might not be a trail worth seeking out, but it does allow for quick access between Tom Blake trail and Government Trail Loop. Often used for loops (up or down direction) on Snowmass ski area trails, or for a shortened Gov't trail loop when coming from Aspen via Sky Mountain Park or Owl Creek paved bike path and Tom Blake trail.

The trail is closed each spring for elk calving season from May 15 through June 27, opening day is June 28. (Note, this is one week longer than over prior years as of 2020.)

The difficult rating is related to the trail's overall steepness, as well as the technical challenge offered by the many tree roots on the trail (Some might consider the trail intermediate level.) Beautiful forested terrain with patches of columbine flowers surround the trail.
