Anchors Aweigh trail is a less technical intermediate track than some others in the forest. The trail takes it's name from Anchor Rock which is located at the junction with Tower Rd. Trail. The large granite slab displays chiseled carvings signed with the initials of J.F Taft. The date recorded in the carving is April 28th, 1876, this day was nearly 2 months before the battle of Little Bighorn ( June 25th, 1876). Better known as Custer's Last Stand. This trail winds it's way in a basically down hill fashion for most of its length before climbing back up to it's junction with Taft trail directly across from the beginning of Absalom trail. Riding in both directions is possible but the flow is better when ridden from Anchor Rock.
