The Back Yard Trails are a series of trails in the woods in between an older housing development and water treatment plant in south Charlotte. The trails are well built and maintained, but a better signage system would be helpful. There are quite a number of technical features (jumps, gap jumps, step downs, rock drops/step downs, wood bridges, skinnies, etc.) that will make this a "very difficult" (black diamond) trail in the IMBA trail rating system, but they are actually not nearly as difficult as other trails around the US. The climbs are short and punchy, and will be tough for those who are moderately fit. With the limited amount of space the trails are very tight, twisty, and double back/cross over each other in a few spots. These trails should not be ridden within at least 24 hours of any significant rain as the roots, rocks, and wood features get very slick, even for highly skilled riders and it holds that moisture creating mud.

In all, Tarheel Trail Blazers has done a great job on this trail with the space available.

2 trees down now. 1 not passable and must backtrack to cut through and pass. The second can be hiked over. The trail seems washed out more than usual
