A classic trek through the Fundy highlands, Black Hole Trail is a wide gravel cart path that travels through mixed forest and stands of pure sugar maple, perfect for hiking, trail running or mountain biking.

This 5.5 km trail leads you to the Upper Salmon River and its namesake, the ‘Black Hole’: a deep pool gouged out through the log drives of yesteryear. Today, the Black Hole is a favorite place to swim and picnic on a hot summer day.

In the fall, it is used as a resting place for inner Bay of Fundy Atlantic salmon that make their way up river to spawn. Overlooking the river, the Black Hole Cabin was built in 1968 by Park Wardens to protect these fish against poachers during their journey.
