Boomslang: The Boomslangs blue grade belies a couple of tricky sections, but in general its an easier ride than Mamba, above it. After being reopened on a shoestring in 2016 after the 2015 fires, Boomslang, like the other Snake Trails received a major makeover in 2019. As you exit Mamba at speed the trail starts with some air time off the jeep track if your speed is high enough. Take care here as the trail curves slightly right over a bigger roller and a smaller one before a sharp left hand bermed corner into a series of rollers. The trail snakes on with a sandy base punctuated by the odd sharp rim and tyre damaging rock or remnants of pine roots. This off-camber pump track like traverse requires energy and care to maintain speed. 100 m or so before the end, an optional rock drop off to the right creates an opportunity to test your nerve and skills with a rocky, slow run up to a narrow chute like drop. The easier and safer option is to keep left and follow a more gentle, but also at times eroded and rocky curve, to the last few sandy corners and the Level 3 Jeep Track and the Snake Eyes Trailhead.

TokaiMTB recommends riders attend skills training and use dropper seat posts to maximize the fun and safety.

Access Info

This section of trail trail links Mamba and Snake Eyes The Boomlsang trailhead is best accessed by taking in Cobra and Mamba above it as part of the longer Snake Trail descent. The Trailhead is however easily reached via the Level 3 Jeep Track which loops up and past the trailhead, For safety's sake, please do not stop on the Jeep Track in a position which blocks access to Boomslang by descending riders.
